Joint Trade Mission in Nigeria
Business opportunities for German and French companies in the transport infrastructure sector
The Joint Trade Mission implemented on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE), is designed to support German and French companies in the transport infrastructure sector in exploring and entering the Nigerian market. It provides a structured platform to facilitate market access, foster international business cooperation, and help companies identify concrete opportunities in Nigeria’s growing infrastructure sector.
The programme offers German and French companies a focused opportunity to gain in-depth insights into the Nigerian market and engage directly with key stakeholders. Through a structured country briefing, expert-led presentations, and the showcasing of best-practice reference projects, participants will gain valuable market intelligence and practical perspectives. During the conference, participating companies from Germany and France will also showcase their products, technologies, and services, as well as highlight potential areas for cooperation, to a Nigerian professional audience. The event is further enhanced by tailored networking formats and individually organised B2B meetings, providing direct access to potential partners and concrete business opportunities in Nigeria’s rapidly growing transport infrastructure sector. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to take part in exclusive group visits to nigerian companies and innovation hubs within the transport infrastructure ecosystem, as well as ongoing projects.
Prior to the visit, a target market analysis will also be prepared, providing comprehensive information on the industry and the market, which will be made available to participants. In addition, a visually prepared company profile will be created in the local language, which will be used to support the acquisition of business contacts on site.
The project is implemented by SBS systems for business solutions GmbH in cooperation with AHK Nigeria and Business France. It is technically supported by the German industry partners Association of Consulting Engineers (VBI) and the German Federal Association of Inland Navigation (BDB), who contribute their sector-specific expertise to the project. Further support is provided by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) and Construction Kaiser Limited in Nigeria.
BMWE supports the German and French companies through this project implementation in their international business activities by facilitating the targeted establishment and expansion of business contacts in Nigeria. The business matchmaking initiative aims to explore market opportunities and prepare long-term sales potential for companies in the sector.
The trade mission can accommodate 16 to 20 German and French companies. The costs for the services provided by the implementing organisation are covered by the BMWE. Participating companies are only required to pay a contribution, which varies depending on company size, as well as their individual travel and accommodation expenses.

Market Information
Business opportunities in nigeria
As Africa’s most populous country and one of its largest economies, Nigeria is entering a decisive phase of infrastructure development. The country faces an infrastructure financing gap estimated at up to €809 billion by 2040, creating substantial demand for international expertise, technology, and investment. To address this challenge, the federal government has significantly increased infrastructure spending, allocating €92 billion to infrastructure projects in its 2024 budget, including €861 million dedicated to road construction. However, annual infrastructure investment needs are estimated at around €92 billion, creating significant opportunities for private-sector participation and international partnerships through structured Public-Private Partnership (PPP) frameworks. Supported by ongoing economic reforms and a growing commitment to foreign investment, Nigeria is increasingly becoming a market where infrastructure plans are being translated into concrete projects and procurement opportunities.
The transport infrastructure sector offers particularly attractive prospects for German and French companies. Nigeria is investing heavily in the modernization of its rail, road, port, logistics, and urban mobility systems. Major projects include a planned 4,000-kilometre high-speed rail network, the expansion of urban rail systems in Lagos, and the modernization of the strategic Lagos–Kano railway corridor. In the maritime sector, investments include the €1.38 billion Lekki Deep Sea Port, while additional projects such as the €3.22 billion Bakassi Deep Seaport and €552 million in announced port modernization investments are further strengthening Nigeria’s position as a regional logistics hub. Growing demand for logistics services, cold-chain infrastructure, intelligent transport systems, electric mobility solutions, and digital traffic management creates opportunities across the entire value chain. Combined with rapid urbanization, a population of over 230 million people, and increasing intra-African trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), Nigeria offers long-term growth potential for companies seeking to establish a strong presence in one of Africa’s most dynamic infrastructure markets.
