Summary

Short Business Description

boltzplatz offers numerical simulations with a focus on spacecraft re-entry, plume interaction and in-space propulsion.

General information

Company profile

boltzplatz is an engineering service provider and a spin-off from the University of Stuttgart (Germany), offering numerical simulations of rarefied gas and plasma dynamics. At the heart of the company lies the open-source software PICLas, which was originally developed to simulate space systems, including atmospheric entry, plume interaction in and in-space propulsion. Additionally, companies in the semiconductor manufacturing and vacuum coating industries developing vacuum and plasma technologies can leverage these numerical simulations. This reduces the need for costly prototypes and extensive testing, saving both time and expenses. Potential applications next to the space systems include the prediction of the performance of vacuum pumps, determination of the gas and plasma distribution in vacuum coating equipment, and the characterization of electron and ion beam properties.

Products & Services

Our services revolve around the open-source plasma simulation framework PICLas and include:
– Simulation projects: We perform the simulations for you and provide you with the results, you do not have to worry about setting and running the simulations
– Workshops & technical support: If you would like to perform the simulations on your own resources, we can get you started with a workshop and provide technical support
– Research & development: We can extend PICLas for your specific application (e.g. implementation of specific models or boundary conditions)

Target group

Universities, research institutes and companies interested in the numerical simulation of atmopheric entry maneuvers, plume interaction as well as electric and chemical propulsion to gain physical insights, to optimize existing and develop new designs.

Competitive advantages

As one of the main developers of the open-source plasma simulation framework PICLas, we can quickly react to customer wishes. The software itself is a unique combination of several kinetic simulation methods including Particle-in-Cell (PIC) for electromagnetic interaction, Direct Simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) for rarefied gas flows and other features such as extensive chemistry modelling & radiation transport.
